Masterton District Pickled Compost Pilot

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to funding from Masterton District Council, we are offering businesses and organisations in Masterton the opportunity to trial a Pickled Compost System for three months—at no cost!

For those who are not aware the Pickled Compost System utilises the bokashi method to 'pickle' all types of kitchen food waste, including cooked and raw foods like meat, fish, dairy, citrus, and baked goods. This process transforms your food scraps into nutrient-rich compost, reducing landfill waste and helping build healthy soil.

What's included:

  • Free starter kits and supplies
  • 1:1 support throughout the trial

While households generate the largest portion of New Zealand's food waste (around 300,000 tonnes annually), businesses contribute approximately 25%—a figure projected to reach 100,000 tonnes by 2030.

This trial is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to adopt a sustainable solution to divert food waste from landfills and take positive climate action.

We are stoked to be working with eco-conscious businesses and organisations so far who have taken up the opportunity:

  • Tranzit Coachline
  • Shotz Coffee - The Rad Pad
  • WFP - Wood Fire Pizza (Masterton, Carterton)
  • Masterton Club Inc.
  • Maori Health - Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa
